Phoebe went to him and slid her arms around his waist, looking up to meet his gaze. âI do, but not right now. I already know your body way better than I know you. This is almost as new for me as it is for you. The attraction between us is like nothing I ever felt for anyone else. I never even heard of cyborgs before you came here.â
âBecause we were just in experimental stages before the war, and it was a top-secret military project. By the time it was made public, mass communications on Earth were destroyed.â He paused, putting his arms around her and rubbing her back. âPhoebe, you can ask me anything you want to know about me, and I will tell you honestly.â
âAnd I believe that. Itâs just that everything happened so fast⦠My head and my heart havenât caught up with my sex parts.â
âYou are everything I thought you would be; you were programmed into my genes. I have always known you⦠Always loved you.â
âItâs not like that for me. I feel like you cast some sort of spell over me that every time I am near you, I want you to rip off my clothes and fuck me.â She frowned. âThatâs not me. I feel like I am out of control.â
Blaze caressed her cheek as she looked up at him earnestly. âYou are reacting as you were meant to. Itâs not a spell; itâs physiology. You recognized me as your mate on a purely physical level. I was sensitized to your scent, and I expected to react to you when I met you.â
âSo, you had a head start on this thing between us.â
âYes,â he said. He framed Phoebeâs face in his hands and kissed her, knowing she was aware of his erection pressed against her belly. âBut itâs more than just sexual attraction. I can see in your eyes that you care for me⦠And in the way, you breed with me.â
âI do like you⦠Very much,â she admitted. âI canât even imagine breeding with anyone but you.â
âI believe you.â
âWhy do you think they made you like this so you could only have one mate?â
âThey didnât want us spreading our genes around in the general population. We were kept in stasis, where they brainwashed us in our virtual lives. You were there in mine. But when I was awakened, you were a memory. I believed I would find you again after the war.â He paused, looking as though heâd conjured a memory that was too painful to speak of.
Phoebe didnât know what to say, so she just waited for him to go on.
âI took a bad hit on a dangerous mission, and the Commander over our unit chose to leave me behind rather than risk any more men to carry me out. He figured I was as good as dead. I was still alive when the Mesaarkans found me. They made me wish for death, tortured me for information I didnât have. I think they knew that eventually; they just wanted to make me suffer.
